ORDER FILED. Lisa B. Fitzgerald, Appellate Commissioner. Darnell Monday, a California pretrial detainee, has filed two substantially similar habeas petitions, which are treated together under 28 U.S.C. 2241. When a habeas petition is filed in the court of appeals, the application must be transferred to the appropriate district court. Fed. R. App. P. 22(a); see 28 U.S.C. 1631, 2241(b). The clerk will transfer the petition and supplemental petition at Docket Entry Nos. 1 and 4, in Case No. 26-1802, and the petition and supplemental petition at Docket Entry Nos. 1 and 4, in Case No. 26-1804, to the United States District Court for the Central District of California, for whatever consideration that court deems appropriate. See Braden v. 30th Jud. Cir. Ct. of Ky., 410 U.S. 484, 495 (1973) (under 2241, the court issuing the writ must have jurisdiction over the custodian). The petitions are deemed filed on March 6, 2026, the date the supplemental petition in Case No. 26-1804 was signed. See Butler v. Long, 752 F.3d 1177, 1178 n.1 (9th Cir. 2014) (assuming petitioner turned petition over to prison authorities on the day it was signed and applying the mailbox rule). This transfer order is issued without regard to whether petitioners claims have any merit. The clerk will include a copy of this order with the transferred petitions. Upon transfer of the petitions, the clerk will close these original actions. PETITIONS TRANSFERRED to the district court. [26-1802, 26-1804] [Entered: 04/20/2026 10:07 AM]
