Howard Matz: The Joint Rule 16(b) Report that the parties in these consolidated cases recently filed discloses that these disputes involve the validity of and possible infringement of two patents relating to digital video displays. Although the court is not certain precisely what terms in the patents will have to be construed, it does appear that unlike most patent cases these cases present unusually difficult and complex technical or technological concepts, issues and devices. If the parties agree that a Special Advisor could be of assistance to the Court, they should propose up to three different individuals who would qualify.
