Filing 32 ORDER re: Motion to Have Accepted the Filed Doubled-Sided Appendices. On June 6, 2022, this court ordered John Doe to file, by June 9, a supplement to his motion to seal and a sealed, amended disclosure statement that includes his true name. On June 8, Doe submitted his opening brief and appendix. The appendix contains over 3000 pages, and includes a Sealed Appendix and a Sealed Appendix (Redacted), each containing 369 pages. Although the motion to seal had not been resolved, the clerks office erroneously filed the brief and appendix. Review of the appendix volumes filed on June 8 shows that the 369-page sealed and redacted appendices are identical; both replace individuals names with pseudonyms but contain personal details that may be sufficient to discover Does identity. The court has restricted access to both versions pending further court order. Accordingly, Doe shall file, by June 28, 2022, an amended disclosure statement containing his true name that will be filed under seal. See Cir. R. 26.1(b). Further, Doe shall file, by June 28, 2022, a supplemental filing that explains whether the 3,000 pages of documents in his appendix are necessary to the appellate process, or includes a pared-down version of the currently-filed appendix. This court has electronic access to the complete record on appeal from the district court docket, so it is not necessary to include everything filed in the district court in the appendix. Similarly, Doe shall explain whether it is necessary to include all 369 pages of documents in the sealed appendix, or whether the redacted versions or portions of the documents are sufficient. If he believes it is necessary to file documents under seal, he must tender by June 28, 2022, an unredacted appendix volume that can be filed under seal and a different, redacted version that can be filed in the public record. Finally, briefing is SUSPENDED pending further court order. The court will rule on the motion to file the double-sided appendices after Doe complies with this order. Filing 18 ORDER re: Unopposed motion for sealing of portion of appendix containing documents that were ordered sealed by the district court, filed on 6/1/2022. The appellant John Doe shall file, by June 9, 2022, a supplement to his motion that includes redacted and unredacted versions of the appendix he seeks to file. This court must independently review litigants claims of secrecy, and the district courts decision to file documents under seal does not establish the propriety of sealing that information on appeal. See Baxter Intl, Inc. v. Abbott Labs., 297 F.3d 544, 54546 (7th Cir. 2002). Does redactions should be limited to the parts of the record that must remain confidential.
