ORDER: Although the defendant was represented by counsel in the district court, the defendant (or the clerk of the district court on the defendants behalf) filed a notice of appeal pro se in this criminal action. Counsel is reminded of the obligation to represent the defendant on appeal unless specifically relieved by this court upon a motion to withdraw. See Circuit Rule 46.1(a), (c). Further, counsel shall comply with the provisions of Fed. R. App. P. 10(b) regarding the preparation of the transcripts. Counsel must file, no later than July 1, 2026, a Status Report regarding their compliance with this order. ORDER: A preliminary review of the short record suggests that this pro se appeal duplicates an appeal filed by the clerk of court on appellants behalf, see Fed. R. Crim. P. 32(j)(2), on June 16, 2026. and docketed in this court as Appeal No. 26-2287. A party needs only one appeal from any given judgment or order, and the other should be dismissed. Grunt Style LLC v. TWD, LLC, 140 F.4th 839, 845 (7th Cir. 2025); Harris v. Bellin Meml Hosp., 13 F.3d 1082, 1083 (7th Cir. 1994). Accordingly, IT IS ORDERED that appellant shall file, on or before July 8, 2026, a brief memorandum stating why this appeal should not be dismissed as unnecessary. A motion for voluntary dismissal under Rule 42(b) of the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure will satisfy this requirement. Briefing is SUSPENDED pending further court order.
