August 14, 2020	Filing 2 Filed clerk order (Deputy Clerk: KMB): The district court judgment was entered on July 31, 2020. On August 11, 2020, the district court docketed a letter from appellant (dated and mailed August 6, 2020) as a notice of appeal, resulting in the opening of this docket No. 20-55827. Appellants letter, however, does not appear to have been intended as a notice of appeal and does not reference the district courts July 31, 2020 judgment. Instead, the letter sought an extension of time to comply with a June 29, 2020 deadline, which corresponds to the deadline for submitting objections to the Magistrate Judges Report and Recommendation. Within 21 days after this order, appellant is directed to show cause as to why this appeal should not be dismissed for lack of an effective notice of appeal. See Fed. R. App. 3. Appellee may file a response within 10 days after service of appellants response. If appellant does not comply with this order, the Clerk will dismiss this request for a certificate of appealability pursuant to Ninth Circuit Rule 42-1.
