March 25, 2026 Opinion or Order Filing 25 ORDER GRANTING #20 Defendant's Opposed Motion for Extension of Time to Answer or Otherwise Respond to First Amended Complaint by Magistrate Judge Susan Prose on 3/25/26. Under Fed. R. Civ. P. 6(b)(1)(A), the Court may extend a deadline for good cause when the request is made before the original deadline expires. The Court finds that good cause exists here. This is Defendant's first request for an extension of time, see ECF No. 20 at 3 ( 13), and the request was made before the applicable deadline. Plaintiff filed the First Amended Complaint on March 11, 2026the day before Defendant's original response deadlineexpanding the pleading from a three-page, 28-paragraph complaint to a 23-page, 105-paragraph complaint asserting six causes of action. See ECF No. 20 at 2 ( 3, 5). Defendant represents that responding to the First Amended Complaint requires additional interviews of UPS personnel and the collection and review of documents, and that it must prepare both a partial motion to dismiss and an answer. See ECF No. 23 at 2. Defendant has also identified specific unanticipated competing work demandsincluding unexpected briefing on a motion to strike, an arbitration discovery dispute, and multiple previously unscheduled client meetingsthat further support the request. See id. at 12. There is no evidence of bad faith, no scheduling order is in place, and no trial date has been set. Although Plaintiff opposes the extension and asserts ongoing harm, see ECF No. 22 at 46 ( 1728), the prejudice he identifies flows from the underlying dispute rather than from a seven-day extension and does not outweigh the good cause shown. See ECF No. 20 at 34 ( 16). Accordingly, Defendant's answer or other response to the First Amended Complaint [ECF No. 14] is due on or before April 1, 2026. For all non-e-filer pro se parties, a copy of this document has been sent via U.S. Mail to the mailing address of record. Text Only Entry(sbplc9, )
