Filing 8 ORDER dismissing case. Under 28 U.S.C. section 1915(e), courts are required to dismiss any action that is frivolous or that fails to state a claim upon which relief can be granted. After careful review of the complaint, the court cannot find a cognizable federal claim amongst the factual allegations. In the complaint, Plaintiff, who is a Connecticut resident, asserts a claim against other Connecticut residents while seeking $3,500 in unpaid loans and related interests. There is no apparent federal claim, and the requirements for diversity jurisdiction clearly are not satisfied. See 28 U.S.C. 1332(a)(2) (requiring that the amount in controversy exceed $75,000 in value and that the parties be citizens of different states). Accordingly, Plaintiff has failed to show that federal courts have jurisdiction over this matter. See Shenandoah v. Halbritter, 366 F.3d 89, 91 (2d Cir. 2004) ("A party seeking to invoke the subject matter jurisdiction of a Court has the burden of demonstrating that there is subject matter jurisdiction in the case.").For that reason, the court must dismiss this action for lack of jurisdiction. The motion to proceed in forma pauperis is denied as moot. The Clerk of Court is asked, respectfully, to close this case. It is so ordered. Signed by Judge Omar A. Williams on 07/31/2023.
