PAPERLESS ORDER. THIS MATTER is before the Court on Plaintiff's Unopposed Motion to Stay the Case (DE #10 ) ("Motion"). In the Motion, Plaintiff requests that the case be stayed for 142 days to provide Broward County time to investigate this matter as required by Florida Statutes Section 768.28(6). See Fla. Stat. 768.28(6)(b) (providing that notice of a claim to the state or one of its agencies or subdivisions and receiving a written denial of the claim are conditions precedent to maintaining a tort action). Plaintiff mailed the notice letter to Broward County on January 8, 2024; thus, Broward County has until July 6, 2024 to complete their investigation. In light of the Florida statute and the one-year limitation for Plaintiff to bring an action against Defendant Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., the Court finds that Plaintiff has demonstrated good cause to warrant a temporary stay of this matter. Accordingly, upon review of the Motion, the record and applicable law, it is ORDERED AND ADJUDGED that Plaintiff's Motion (DE #10 ) is GRANTED. The Clerk of Court is directed to STAY this case. Plaintiff shall notify this Court as to the status of Broward County's investigation every SIXTY (60) DAYS starting from the date of this Order until such time as the stay of this matter is due to be lifted.
