April 21, 2021 Opinion or Order Filing 6 PAPERLESS ORDER granting #5 Unopposed Motion for Extension of Time to File Answer. Defendant Yaneisy Morrel moves for an extension of the deadline to respond to Plaintiff's Complaint. The motion indicates that Defendant was served on March 30, 2021. Thereafter, the Parties successfully negotiated a settlement and reached an agreement in principle. No executed return of service has been entered in the court record, however based upon the timeline set forth in Defendant's motion and pursuant to Fed. R. Civ. P. 12(a), Defendant's deadline to respond to the Complaint was yesterday, April 20, 2021. Defendant does not specify how much additional time is needed to finalize the Parties' settlement, and Plaintiff apparently does not oppose a "reasonable" extension. Based upon the foregoing, and given the representation that this case will ultimately be resolved early and amicably, I find good cause to grant the motion. I further find that a two week extension is appropriate. Accordingly, Defendant shall respond to the Complaint no later than May 4, 2021. Alternatively, the Plaintiff may file a notice of voluntary dismissal by that date. Signed by Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks on 4/21/2021. (kal)
