PAPERLESS ORDER granting in part #7 Motion for Extension of Time. On July 31, 2023, the date that Defendant's Answer was due, Plaintiff filed this motion to extend the filing deadline. No counsel has yet entered an appearance on behalf of Defendant in this matter. However in the Motion, Plaintiff explains that Defendant's counsel contacted Plaintiff's counsel yesterday, saying that he was "recently" retained and needs additional time to investigate the allegations. Motions for extension of time must set forth good cause supported by specific facts. The present motion is lacking in details and does not provide me with sufficient information to determine whether the good cause standard is met. The date of counsel's retention is unknown, and there is no explanation as to why an additional three weeks is necessary to prepare a response to the Complaint. In the interest of efficiency and given the posture of this matter, I will grant relief in part and extend the Defendant's response deadline by one week, until August 8, 2023. If Defendant requires an additional extension, its counsel may file a renewed motion upon entering an appearance in the case. The basis for any additional extension must be well-explained.
