February 15, 2019 Opinion or Order TEXT ORDER entered by Judge Colin Stirling Bruce on 2/15/2019. Plaintiff's motion to request counsel #5 is DENIED. The Court cannot consider the merits of his motion until Plaintiff shows that he has made reasonable efforts to find counsel on his own. Pruitt v. Mote, 503 F.3d 647, 654-55 (7th Cir. 2007). This Court typically requires a litigant to attach the responses that he has received from lawyers declining the request to represent him. Plaintiff has not attached any responses to his motion to request counsel or demonstrated that he has made any efforts to find counsel on his own. Plaintiff may renew his motion for counsel, but if he chooses to do so, he should attach the responses that he has received from the lawyers that he has contacted where those lawyers decline his request to represent him. In addition, Plaintiff should set forth his educational level, work experience inside and outside of the facility, his litigation experience (if any), and any other facts relevant to whether he is competent to proceed without an attorney. Finally, the Court generally will not consider recruiting counsel for a pro se plaintiff until the Court determines that he possess a claim upon which relief can be granted after conducting a merit review of the complaint. (JMB, ilcd)
