TEXT ORDER entered by District Judge Jonathan E Hawley on 8/4/2026. Plaintiff filed a #8 Petition to Proceed in forma pauperis ("IFP Petition"). According to his #5 Prisoner Trust Fund Ledger ("TFL"), Plaintiff had a beginning balance of $11,455.03 in March 2026. His current balance is $245.49. On March 26, 2026, Plaintiff sent a check for $9,000.00 to Sydni Johns. Between March 2, 2026 and July 15, 2026, Plaintiff spent $2,385.57 at the commissary. According to his TFL, Plaintiff received $130.00 from state payroll and a $50.00 deposit from Marvin Craft, but Plaintiff did not disclose the amount of money he received on his IFP Petition. (Doc. #8 at p. 1). "Courts have broad discretion in assessing the sufficiency of an applicant's evidence of poverty, especially when it comes to prisoners, who have fewer demands on their income because prisons provide them with food, clothing, shelter, and medical care." Maboneza v. Kincaid, 798 F. App'x 19, 23 (7th Cir 2020) (finding that inmate who had $1,500 in income in preceding six months was not destitute). Courts may monitor a prisoner's expenditures "to ensure that the prisoner does not deplete his trust account in order to avoid paying the filing fee." Hughes v. Anderson, 829 F. App'x 724, 726 (7th Cir. 2020). Here, it appears that Plaintiff depleted his account before filing his Complaint. Plaintiff also did not disclose the amount of money he had received on his IFP Petition. Plaintiff has no debts, dependents, or other financial obligations. Therefore, Plaintiff's IFP Petition #8 is DENIED. Plaintiff is ORDERED to pay the $405.00 filing fee in full within 30 days of this Order. The failure to do so will result in the dismissal of this case without prejudice. (VH)
