September 20, 2018 TEXT ORDER by U.S. Magistrate Judge Tom Schanzle-Haskins. Motion for Leave to Proceed as Jane Doe (Filed Under Seal Pursuant to Order Entered 9/17/2018) #9 (Motion) is ALLOWED; provided however, that any Defendant may ask the Court to revisit the ruling. Legal proceedings are presumed to be open to the public. A party may overcome that presumption if the party demonstrates that the harm to the party from disclosing her identity exceeds the harm to society from concealment. See Doe v. City of Chicago, 306 F.3d 667, 668 (7th Cir. 2004). At this point, the Plaintiff has made a sufficient showing to allow her to proceed under a pseudonym. She alleges that she was a victim of sexual assault and has a legitimate fear of retaliation. Defendants, however, have not appeared in the case and have not had an opportunity to address the Motion. Any Defendant may ask the Court to revisit this ruling at any time during this case. (LB, ilcd)
