TEXT ORDER: On July 8, 2019, Plaintiff filed an Amended Complaint. Plaintiff asserts the Court has diversity jurisdiction pursuant to 28 U.S.C. 1331(a)(1). Paragraph 5 of the Amended Complaint identifies the sole member of Defendant RKDS, LLC as RK Family, Inc., an Illinois corporation, but does not identify RK Family, Inc.'s principal place of business. Plaintiff shall file an Affidavit identifying the principal place of business of RK Family, Inc. on or before July 19, 2019. Plaintiff is also reminded that Local Rule 5.8(A) provides that "[i]f a document with attachments and exhibits is longer than 30 pages, a courtesy paper copy must be provided to the presiding judge's chambers." TEXT ORDER: On June 13, 2019, Plaintiff filed a Complaint for Declaratory Judgment #1 . Plaintiff asserts this Court has diversity jurisdiction pursuant to 28 U.S.C. 1332(a)(1) because the amount in controversy exceeds $75,000, exclusive of interest and costs, and the suit is between citizens of different states. Compl. 15. However, at least one defendant is identified as a limited liability corporation and at least one defendant is identified as a partnership. (A third defendant is identified as an LLC and a partnership, see Compl. 10). The citizenship of an LLC is the citizenship of its members and the citizenship of a partnership is the citizenship of its partners. See Thomas v. Guardsmark, LLC, 487 F.3d 531, 534 (7th Cir. 2007); Hart v. Terminex Int'l, 336 F.3d 541, 543 (7th Cir. 2003). Plaintiff alleges generally that the members of the LLC(s) and partnership(s) are Illinois citizens. This is insufficient. Plaintiff must trace the citizenship of unincorporated associations "through however many layers of partners or members there may be." Meyerson v. Harrah's East Chicago Casino, 299 F.3d 616, 617 (7th Cir. 2002). Therefore, Plaintiff must identify by name all of the members or partners and identify each member's or partner's state of citizenship. Plaintiff shall do so on or before July 8, 2019.
