TEXT ORDER entered by Judge James E. Shadid on 8/10/2023. Plaintiff has filed a Petition to Proceed in forma pauperis #3 stating that she receives a wage of $45.00 a month in wages as a dietary worker at Logan Correctional Center and has received about $2,400 in gifts from family members in the past 12 months. Plaintiff does not indicate if she has any regular monthly expenses, dependents, debts, or other financial obligations. According to her Prisoner Trust Fund #4 , Plaintiff has $1,324.55 in her account. "Courts have broad discretion in assessing the sufficiency of an applicant's evidence of poverty, especially when it comes to prisoners, who have fewer demands on their income because prisons provide them with food, clothing, shelter, and medical care." See Maboneza v. Kincaid, 798 F. App'x 19, 23 (7th Cir 2020) (finding that inmate who had $1,500 in income in preceding six months was not destitute). Based on the information before this Court, it appears that Plaintiff has sufficient funds to pay the $402 filing fee. Plaintiff's IFP Petition #3 is DENIED, with leave to renew to allow Plaintiff the opportunity to indicate if she has any regular monthly expenses, dependents, debts, or other financial obligations. The Clerk is DIRECTED to send Plaintiff a copy of the Court's IFP form. Plaintiff is DIRECTED to renew her IFP Petition or pay the $402 filing fee in full within 21 days of this Order. The failure to renew her IFP Petition or pay the filing fee in full on or before August 31, 2023, will result in the dismissal of this case without prejudice. (SAG)
