TEXT ORDER by Magistrate Judge Ronald L. Hanna: The Court adopts the Discovery Plan #14 . The Court adopts all deadlines as proposed including the following: Discovery due by June 11, 2027. Dispositive Motions due by July 23, 2027. Final Pretrial Conference is set for October 20, 2027, at 11:00 AM and the Jury Trial is set for November 29, 2027, at 9:00 AM, BOTH in Courtroom A in Rock Island before Judge Sara Darrow. The proposed pretrial order is due October 13, 2027. Rule 16 Conference set for July 24, 2026, is VACATED. Court stresses the importance of adhering to the schedule and procedures for requests to extend the schedule. The parties are expected to review Judge Hanna's Standing Order dated October 28, 2025, and found on the court's website (www.ilcd.uscourts.gov). Parties are reminded of their option to consent to proceed before U.S. Magistrate Judge. See attached form. Parties are reminded of option of Court sponsored mediation/Settlement Conference. TEXT ORDER: Defendant #6 moves for leave to file an answer to Plaintiff's complaint. Defendant explains that it inadvertently mis-calendared its response deadline following removal of this action. It has since filed an #8 answer, which it asks the Court to accept. Under Fed. R. Civ. P. 6(b)(1)(A), courts may, for good cause, extend time when a request is made before the original deadline expires. But where, as here, the request is made after the original deadline expires, Civil Local Rule 6.1 instructs courts to deny it unless "substantial injustice" would result from the denial. Rule 6.1 also instructs parties asking for an extension to state whether the opposing party consents to the motion--which Defendant has not done. Nonetheless, the Court finds an extension reasonable because (1) this case remains in an early stage, and (2) denying the request would deprive Defendant of an opportunity to contest Plaintiff's suit on the merits. Thus, Defendant's #6 motion is GRANTED, and the Court will accept Defendant's #8 answer. Defendant has also filed a #7 document, titled a "motion," which is simply a proposed order. That #7 motion is DENIED as unnecessary. (Moving forward, Defendant is advised that any proposed orders should be attached as exhibits to the motion to which the order pertains.) Finally, in light of Defendant's answer, this case is set for a Rule 16 scheduling conference on July 24, 2026, at 10:00 AM via telephone before Magistrate Judge Ronald L. Hanna. Counsel are to phone into conference by calling (551) 285-1373 and enter the Meeting ID: 16095893703# when prompted to do so. Please announce your name prior to speaking unless the judge asks a question directly to you so that the speaker may be identified by all. A discovery plan pursuant to Fed. R. Civ. P. 26(f)(3) shall be filed on or before July 21, 2026. All counsel must read and be familiar with Judge Hanna's Standing Order, dated October 28, 2025, which can be found on the Central District of Illinois website (www.ilcd.uscourts.gov) under Clerks office/Local rules and Orders/Orders & Rules by Judge prior to their Rule 26(f) planning meeting.
