ORDER: Petitioner Jokari Miller, an Illinois prisoner at the Shawnee Correctional Center proceeding pro se, has filed a 28 U.S.C. 2254 petition for federal habeas corpus relief. (Dkt. 1.) A prisoner may obtain federal habeas relief only for the conviction or sentence for which he is currently in custody. Stanbridge v. Scott, 791 F.3d 715, 718 (7th Cir. 2015) (citing Maleng v. Cook, 490 U.S. 488, 490 (1989)). Here, Miller states that he seeks to vacate convictions from 2002 and 2012. (Dkt. 1 at 4). But the Illinois Department of Corrections website says that Miller's current incarceration is from two more recent convictions: felon in possession of a firearm (Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 16 CR 109400), and theft by con of $300-$10,000 (Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 15 CR 600060). The current 2254 petition is dismissed without prejudice. Miller must file an amended petition that more clearly identifies the conviction(s) he is challenging and the grounds for his challenge. The failure to comply with this order by June 25, 2021, will result in summary dismissal of this case without prejudice. The Clerk shall send an amended 2254 petition form to Petitioner.
