April 27, 2022 Filing 12 STATUS Report by U.S. Bank National Association (Schroeder, Philip)
April 19, 2022 Filing 11 MINUTE entry before the Honorable Steven C. Seeger: Status hearing held on April 19, 2022. This case is a 2015 foreclosure case involving the sale of a home. It was filed in 2015 in state court, and the state court entered judgment in 2017. The parties discussed whether the matter belongs in federal court. For the reasons stated on the record, the Court hereby remands this case to the Circuit Court of Cook County. This is the third time that a federal court in this district has remanded this case to state court. The Court understands that Defendant does not want her home to be sold, especially given that she has lived in the home for 55 years. This Court understands where Defendant is coming from. Even so, this Court has ruled that the case does not belong in federal court, so the case is going back to state court where it belongs. The Court directs Defendant not to remove this case to federal court again. Before this matter returns to state court, counsel shall file a joint status report about ongoing discussions by April 27, 2022. In light of the ruling, any and all pending motions such as the application to proceed without prepaying fees or costs (Dckt. No. #5 ) are denied as moot. Mailed notice (jjr, )
April 12, 2022 Filing 10 MINUTE entry before the Honorable Steven C. Seeger: This Court amends its prior minute entry dated April 11, 2022 as follows. (Dckt. No. #7 ) This Court meant to say that it is not at all clear that this case belongs in federal court (not state court). State courts are courts of general jurisdiction, so they can hear just about anything. That's not true of federal courts. So, Plaintiff must show cause why the case belongs here in federal court. Mailed notice (jjr, )

April 11, 2022 Filing 7 MINUTE entry before the Honorable Steven C. Seeger: The Court reviewed the docket in this case, which Defendant removed from state court. It is a foreclosure case, and it is not at all clear that the case belongs in state court. The notice of removal did not include a copy of the complaint, in violation of 28 U.S.C. 1446(a). Plaintiff's counsel must file a copy of the complaint (given that Defendant is pro se) by April 13, 2022. A telephonic status hearing is set for April 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Members of the public and media will be able to call in to listen to this hearing. The call-in number is (888) 684-8852 and the access code is 9369830. Violation of these prohibitions may result in sanctions, including removal of court issued media credentials, restricted entry to future hearings, denial of entry to future hearings, or any other sanctions deemed necessary by the Court. Plaintiff's counsel must serve a copy of this Order on Defendant, and ensure that she is aware of the need to participate in the hearing.
