Filing 8 MINUTE entry before the Honorable Mary M. Rowland: On 9/27/22, the Court ordered Plaintiff to file a jurisdictional supplement setting forth the identities and citizenships of the members of Defendants Veristar LLC and Veristar Global LLC. #5 . Plaintiff timely filed a jurisdictional supplement. See #7 . The jurisdictional supplement satisfies this Court that the members of Veristar LLC are citizens of Illinois and the District of Columbia, and thus, are completely diverse from Plaintiff, a Connecticut citizen. Plaintiff, however, indicates that he still is in the process of discovering the identities and citizenships of the members of the other LLC Defendant, Veristar Global LLC. Plaintiff indicates also that he is working with counsel for one of the Defendants to discover such information without the need for formal discovery. In light of these representations, this Court will allow Plaintiff additional time to confirm the membership of Veristar Global LLC. Plaintiff is ordered to file a second jurisdictional supplement by 11/1/22. Mailed notice. (dm, ) |

(dm, ) |
Filing 5 MINUTE entry before the Honorable Mary M. Rowland: In light of Plaintiff's invocation of diversity as the basis for federal jurisdiction #1 , on or before 10/17/22, Plaintiff shall file a jurisdictional supplement, as a separate docket entry. Plaintiff is reminded that "there's no such thing as a [state name here] partnership or LLC, that only the partners' or members' citizenships matter, and that their identities and citizenships must be revealed." West v. Louisville Gas & Elec. Co., 951 F.3d 827, 829 (7th Cir. 2020). Plaintiff must therefore "identify the citizenship of each of [the LLC defendants'] members as of the date the complaint... was filed, and, if those members have members, the citizenship of those members as well." Thomas v. Guardsmark, LLC, 487 F.3d 531, 534 (7th Cir. 2007). Failure to file the jurisdictional supplement as directed may result in the dismissal of this case for lack of subject matter jurisdiction. Mailed notice. (dm, ) |
