Filing 11 MINUTE entry before the Honorable Sheila M. Finnegan: Magistrate Judge telephone status hearing held on 2/15/2023 and continued to 3/16/2023 at 9:30 a.m. The Court explained the discovery process to the pro se Plaintiff. Defendant seeks entry of a Confidentiality Order before Rule 26(a)(1) disclosures and other discovery for reasons explained on the record. Defendant is to forward a proposed Confidentiality Order to Plaintiff for review before filing a motion for entry of the order. Defendant is to provide Rule 26(a)(1) disclosures to Plaintiff within 14 days of entry of the Confidentiality Order. Plaintiff is to provide her Rule 26(a)(1) disclosures 7 days after receipt of Defendant's disclosures. By agreement, the parties may issue these disclosures and other discovery (and respond to it) by email. At Plaintiff's request, all fact discovery is to be completed by 5/16/2023. If an extension of that deadline is necessary, the party seeking the extension must do so before 5/16/2023. Plaintiff is advised that the website for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (found at http://www.ilnd.uscourts.gov/) has a section entitled "Representing Yourself" with various resources. Among these is a "Free Self-Help Assistance Program" staffed by volunteer lawyers who provide advice on federal court process and procedure but do not provide attorney representation. The Program operates remotely by video conference or phone, and a pro se litigant must sign up in advance for an appointment in the manner described on the website. In addition, a Pro Se Handbook (2020 edition) issued by another U.S. court contains extensive discussion of Rule 26(a)(1) disclosures, the various forms of written discovery, and the discovery process. That handbook is found at https://www.cand.uscourts.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Pro_Se_Handbook_2020ed_links_12-2021_MBB.pdf. The toll-free number for the next hearing is 877-336-1831, access code 5995354. Persons granted remote access to proceedings are reminded of the prohibition against recording and rebroadcasting of court proceedings. Mailed notice (sxw) |
