ORDER Signed by the Honorable Martha M. Pacold on 3/21/2023: Plaintiff is ordered to show cause by 4/11/2023 why this case should not be dismissed for lack of subject matter jurisdiction. The complaint #1 premises jurisdiction on the diversity statute, 28 U.S.C. 1332(a), but it does not properly allege the citizenship of each defendant. For example, the complaint alleges that each limited liability company and corporation is affiliated with a particular state. #1 at 1-21. But this information does not establish citizenship for diversity purposes. "For diversity jurisdiction purposes, the citizenship of an LLC is the citizenship of each of its members." Thomas v. Guardsmark, LLC, 487 F.3d 531, 534 (7th Cir. 2007). Corporations are deemed to be citizens of their state of incorporation and their principal place of business. 28 U.S.C. 1332(c)(1). Plaintiff may discharge this order by filing by 4/11/2023 (or if plaintiff needs more time, plaintiff may request an extension) a jurisdictional statement that properly establishes diversity of citizenship between the plaintiff and the defendants. This statement shall include the citizenship of each limited liability company, including the identity of its members and their citizenships. It shall also include the state of incorporation and principal place of business for each corporation. Failure to comply will result in dismissal for lack of subject matter jurisdiction. (rao, )
