Filing 9 MINUTE entry before the Honorable John J. Tharp, Jr: Plaintiff's motion for attorney representation #8 is denied without prejudice. The plaintiff has not provided evidence that (1) she employed reasonably diligent efforts to secure counsel and (2) she cannot competently litigate the case herself per Pruitt v. Mote, 503 F.3d 647 (7th Cir. 2007) (en banc). As to the former, the plaintiff has attempted to contact three law firms, but is still waiting to hear back from two and was referred to the National Employment Counseling Association by the other. This is not adequate diligence; the plaintiff should continue to try and secure representation from counsel. Examining the second factor, the plaintiff has a high school education and presses a straightforward claim that she was discriminated against at her place of employment. At this early stage of the proceedings, appointment of counsel is not warranted. The Court encourages the plaintiff to seek aid at the Federal Court Help Desk (William J. Hibbler Memorial Pro Se Assistance Program), which is a free, appointment-only help desk providing advice and assistance to people without lawyers in federal court.
