Date Filed Document Text
December 28, 2023 Filing 13 ANNUAL REMINDER: Pursuant to #Local Rule 3.2 (Notification of Affiliates)#, any nongovernmental party, other than an individual or sole proprietorship, must file a statement identifying all its affiliates known to the party after diligent review or, if the party has identified no affiliates, then a statement reflecting that fact must be filed. An affiliate is defined as follows: any entity or individual owning, directly or indirectly (through ownership of one or more other entities), 5% or more of a party. The statement is to be electronically filed as a PDF in conjunction with entering the affiliates in CM/ECF as prompted. As a reminder to counsel, parties must supplement their statements of affiliates within thirty (30) days of any change in the information previously reported. This minute order is being issued to all counsel of record to remind counsel of their obligation to provide updated information as to additional affiliates if such updating is necessary. If counsel has any questions regarding this process, this #LINK# will provide additional information. Signed by the Executive Committee on 12/28/2023: Mailed notice. (tg, )
December 12, 2023 Filing 12 MINUTE entry before the Honorable Lindsay C. Jenkins:Plaintiff shall file a status report by 1/12/2024, as to the service of summons. Mailed notice. (jlj, )
December 12, 2023 Filing 11 MINUTE entry before the Honorable Lindsay C. Jenkins: Plaintiff has filed a motion for attorney representation #10 which is denied without prejudice to refiling. "There is no right to court-appointed counsel in federal civil litigation." Olson v. Morgan, 750 F.3d 708, 711 (7th Cir. 2014). In deciding whether to recruit counsel, the Court must ask: "(1) has the indigent plaintiff made a reasonable attempt to obtain counsel or been effectively precluded from doing so; and if so, (2) given the difficulty of the case, does the plaintiff appear competent to litigate it himself?" Pruitt v. Mote, 503 F.3d 647, 654-55 (7th Cir. 2007) (en banc). The Court may consider, among other factors: the plaintiff's submissions to date, education level, and communication skills, as well as the complexity of the case. See Pruitt, 503 F.3d at 655-56; Olson, 750 F.3d at 712. Plaintiff's motion has not identified any attempts to retain counsel on her own, nor has she completed the required form for appointment of counsel. The Court also observes that Plaintiff has filed several cases in the Northern District of Illinois, and she has at least one other case pending in this District (21-cv-6555). Her motion for attorney representation in that case was denied in light of Plaintiff's college education, demonstrated communication skills, and competent filings, as well as the relative simplicity of that case. Those same reasons apply here and recruitment of counsel is not currently warranted. Mailed notice. (jlj, )
