March 25, 2024 Filing 4 MINUTE entry before the Honorable Matthew F. Kennelly: Carmela Sanchez has filed a complaint against the Chicago Transit Authority on a court-provided form for a "complaint of employment discrimination" and has paid the filing fee. There are several key deficiencies in Ms. Sanchez's complaint that require its dismissal. First Ms. Sanchez did not sign the complaint (there is a blank that clearly provides for this). Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 11(a) requires all pleadings to be signed. Second Ms. Sanchez left blank the sections of the complaint form that ask her to describe what she alleges the defendant did that was wrong and the supporting facts. These are paragraphs 12 and 13 of the complaint form. Ms. Sanchez attached some correspondence and other documents to her complaint but it is impossible for the Court to tell from these documents exactly what she is suing the CTA about. Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 8(a)(2) requires a plaintiff to include in her complaint "a short and plain statement of the claim showing that [she] is entitled to relief." Ms. Sanchez's complaint does not do this. For these reasons the Court dismisses the complaint with leave to file an amended complaint. The Clerk is directed to send Ms. Sanchez a form for Amended Complaint of Employment Discrimination. If Ms. Sanchez does not file by 4/15/2024 a proper amended complaint that states a viable claim for relief then the Court will enter judgment against her. Mailed notice. (mma, )
