Date Filed Document Text
November 19, 2024 Filing 6 APPLICATION by Plaintiff Makeita Thomas for leave to proceed in forma pauperis (Exhibits) (Received by mail in the Clerk's Office on 11/19/2024, Envelope not postmarked) (emc, )
November 5, 2024 MAILED Plaintiff a blank application for leave to proceed in forma pauperis along with a copy of order #5 dated 11/1/24. (ph, )
November 1, 2024 Opinion or Order Filing 5 ORDER: The Court denies Plaintiff's application for leave to proceed in forma pauperis #4 because it is incomplete. Plaintiff must either (1) prepay the full $405.00 filing fee or (2) submit a renewed application to proceed in forma pauperis that complies with the instructions in the Statement section below. Failure to comply by 12/2/2024, will result in summary dismissal of this case. The Court denies Plaintiff's motion for attorney representation #3 because it reflects that she made no effort to obtain counsel on her own. See Balle v. Kennedy, 73 F.4th 545, 559 (7th Cir. 2023) (explaining that first step in determining whether to recruit counsel for an indigent litigant is to ask whether the litigant "made a reasonable attempt to obtain counsel on his own" or was precluded from doing so); see Russell v. Bukowski, 608 F. App'x 426, 428 (7th Cir. 2015) ("[B]efore a district court is required to consider recruiting counsel to assist a litigant in a civil case, the litigant must make a reasonable attempt to secure counsel for himself."). The Court defers consideration of Plaintiff's complaint under 28 U.S.C. 1915A until after her fee status has been resolved. The Clerk of Court is directed to send Plaintiff a blank application for leave to proceed in forma pauperis along with a copy of this order. Signed by the Honorable Sunil R. Harjani on 11/1/2024. Mailed notice (ph, )
