March 3, 2023 Opinion or Order Filing 6 ORDER, Petitioner, after receiving this Court's directive to either submit a completed in forma pauperis (IFP) application or pay the $5.00 filing fee for his 28 U.S.C. 2254 case, sent a letter to the Court stating he never intended to file a federal habeas corpus petition. #5 His letter explains that he was trying to file a state post-conviction petition, and he asks this Court to provide him with forms to do so. Id. Construing his letter as a request to dismiss this case, the Court grants the request, dismisses this case without prejudice to Petitioner filing his federal petition when he is ready to do so, and directs the Clerk of this Court to close this case. See Fed. R. Civ. P. 41(a). To the extent Petitioner seeks forms to file a state post-conviction petition, he should request such forms from either the library at his current facility or the state circuit court where he was convicted and sentenced. February 1, 2023 Opinion or Order Filing 4 ORDER, Petitioner's motion to proceed in forma pauperis (IFP) #3 is denied without prejudice to him submitting a completed IFP application that includes both a signature from an authorized officer at his facility and a copy of his prison trust fund account statement showing activity therein for the past six months. Alternatively, he may pay the $5.00 filing fee by check or money made payable to the Clerk, United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois. By February 27, 2023, Petitioner must satisfy the Court's $5.00 filing fee requirement for his 28 U.S.C. 2254 petition by one of the methods described above. His failure to comply will result in summary dismissal of this case without prejudice. See N.D. Ill. Local Rule 3.3(f). The Clerk of Court shall: (1) forward an IFP form to Petitioner, and (2) change the name of the Respondent from People of Illinois to David Mitchell, Warden of Pinckneyville Correctional Center, and change the caption of the case to Reid v.
