February 9, 2024 Filing 12 MINUTE entry before the Honorable Iain D. Johnston: On 2/2/2024 the Court directed the plaintiff to file its Rule 7.1(a)(2) disclosure identifying its state(s) of citizenship. The disclosure revealed that the plaintiff's "sole member" is "resident" of Illinois. The disclosure presents two problems. First, it does not identify whether the "sole member" is a person or business entity, and that matters to determine citizenship. Second, residence and citizenship are not synonymous, Meyerson v. Harrah's East Chicago Casino, 299 F.3d 616, 617 (7th Cir. 2002), and the disclosure gives only the residence of the sole member. By 2/16/2024 the plaintiff shall file its revised Rule 7.1(a)(2) disclosure identifying the name of the sole member and the member's citizenship. If the sole member has members, their citizenship must be identified as well. See Thomas v. Guardsmark, LLC, 487 F.3d 531, 534 (7th Cir. 2008). Counsel may find helpful the Court's article on its webpage entitled, "Know the answer to federal jurisdiction." (yxp, )
