ORDER DENYING #8 Motion to Seal Case. Documents filed in court are "presumptively open to the public." See Bond v. Utreros, 585 F.3d 1061, 1073 (7th Cir. 2009). A party cannot seal whatever documents he/she wants. See Citizens First Nat. Bank of Princeton v. Cincinnati Ins. Co., 178 F.3d 943, 945 (7th Cir. 1997). The party must demonstrate good cause for sealing part or all of the record. In the Motion, Plaintiff provides very little information about the reason for his request to seal the entire case, beyond expressing concern that information regarding his gang affiliation will be accessible to other inmates. Standing alone, this is not enough to demonstrate good cause for sealing this entire case. Plaintiff's request is denied without prejudice. Signed by Judge J. Phil Gilbert on 4/17/2020.
