Filing 19 NOTICE AND ORDER: The Court is in receipt of two motions (Docs. #17 and #18 ), and notes that it already extended the amended pleading deadline via a Show Cause Order. In light of these documents, the Court terminates the Show Cause and grants #18 motion, extending pleading deadline to April 15, 2024. The Court denies #17 as the Court has already ruled on the motion and Williams has not provided sufficient rationale for dismissing the exhibits. Signed by Judge Stephen P. McGlynn on 3/25/2024. (jce) THIS TEXT ENTRY IS AN ORDER OF THE COURT. NO FURTHER DOCUMENTATION WILL BE MAILED. |

Filing 15 ORDER denying #14 Motion to Appoint Counsel. Civil litigants do not have a constitutional or statutory right to counsel. Pruitt v. Mote, 503 F.3d 647, 649 (7th Cir. 2007); Zarnes v. Rhodes, 64 F.3d 285, 288 (7th Cir. 1995). When presented with a request to appoint counsel, the Court must make the following inquiries: (1) has the indigent plaintiff made a reasonable attempt to obtain counsel or effectively been precluded from doing so, and (2) given the difficulty of the case, does the plaintiff appear competent to litigate it himself. Pruitt, 503 F.3d at 654-55. Here, Plaintiff's motion is insufficient as he did not describe what he did to try to get an attorney other than state, "the attorneys I reached out to did not take employment cases and the other did not want to give counsel without a fee." Thus, Plaintiff has not met his threshold burden in attempting to recruit counsel on his own. Accordingly, Plaintiff's Motion is DENIED at this time. Signed by Judge Stephen P. McGlynn on 3/22/2024. (jce)THIS TEXT ENTRY IS AN ORDER OF THE COURT. NO FURTHER DOCUMENTATION WILL BE MAILED. Modified on 3/22/2024 (jce). |

In the meantime, the Court RESERVES RULING on Plaintiff's Motion for Leave to Proceed in forma pauperis (Doc. #9 ) and Motion for Service of Process at government's expense (Doc. #11 ). See attached Order for further details. (Amended Pleading due by 3/22/2024.). Signed by Judge Stephen P. McGlynn on 2/28/2024. (jce) Modified on 2/28/2024 (jce). |
