ORDER granting #15 . Defendants can have until 10/2/23 to answer, not because the parties are engaged in settlement discussions (as this Court does not extend time for settlement discussions), but because "[i]n truth, the answer in a civil action is the most useless paper in the courthouse." Alexander By and Through Alexander v. Richardson-Merrell Inc., 541 F.Supp. 93, 94 (S.D.N.Y. 1982). Far more useful to the Court will be the parties' joint summary letter which must be filed in advance of the 9/22/23 Initial Status Conference as set forth in this Court's Orders of 7/21/23 #8 and 8/22/23. The parties can expect to be placed on a prompt discovery and trial schedule at the conference regardless of the status of any settlement discussions.
