February 15, 2024 Opinion or Order Filing 3 ** TEXT ONLY ORDER ** Petitioner Chidiebele Okafor, without counsel, seeks a writ of habeas corpus under 28 U.S.C. 2241. Okafor contends that: (1) he is entitled to sentence credit under the First Step Act that would entitle him to immediate release to a halfway house; and (2) the Bureau of Prisons has denied him immediate release by falsely stating that he is subject to a detainer from U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement. I will direct the clerk of court to serve the petition on respondent at FCI-Oxford, the local United States Attorney, and the United States Attorney General by certified mail in accordance with Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 4(i). Because the petition is urgent, respondent may have until February 29, 2024, to answer the petition. Respondent must accompany its answer with all necessary supporting documents.
