December 22, 2020 Opinion or Order MINUTE ORDER. Before the Court is the plaintiff's #19 Motion for Default Judgment. "In FSIA default judgment proceedings, the plaintiff may establish proof by affidavit," Reed v. Islamic Republic of Iran, 845 F. Supp. 2d 204, 212 (D.D.C. 2012), so "an evidentiary hearing is not required," Moradi v. Islamic Republic of Iran, 77 F. Supp. 3d 57, 65 (D.D.C. 2015). Consequently, some courts in this district have held an evidentiary hearing in FSIA default judgment proceedings, see, e.g., Abedini v. Gov't of Islamic Republic of Iran, 422 F. Supp. 3d 118, 127 (D.D.C. 2019); Rezaian v. Islamic Republic of Iran, 422 F. Supp. 3d 164, 174 (D.D.C. 2019), while others have declined to do so, see, e.g., Braun v. Islamic Republic of Iran, 228 F. Supp. 3d 64, 73 (D.D.C. 2017); Moradi, 77 F. Supp. 3d at 65. Accordingly, it is ORDERED that the plaintiff shall file a status report, on or before January 4, 2021, indicating whether the plaintiff requests an evidentiary hearing. If the plaintiff requests a hearing, the plaintiff shall provide a summary of the evidence it seeks to introduce at the hearing that is not already provided in the affidavits.
