MINUTE ORDER: Defendants are hereby ORDERED to file, by Wednesday, September 4, 2019, both Blueline Security Services, LLC's Notice of Consent and a certification attesting to the LLC's citizenship. It is this Court's practice to verify the citizenship of the parties in diversity cases to confirm its subject-matter jurisdiction. The parties are reminded that, for purposes of diversity jurisdiction, an LLC assumes the citizenship of all its members. See Laroach v. BridgePoint Healthcare, LLC, No. 18-cv-1096, 2018 WL 6434768, at *1-*3 (D.D.C. Dec. 7, 2018); Shulman v. Voyou, LLC, 305 F. Supp. 2d 36, 39-40 (D.D.C. 2004). The parties should also note, as the Laroach case makes clear, that if any members of the LLC are themselves LLCs or partnerships, the citizenship of those LLCs or partnerships must be identified--because the party would be considered a citizen of those states as well. See 2018 WL 6434768, at *1 (explaining that when an LLC has as a member another LLC or partnership, the citizenship must be traced through however many members or partners there may be). Signed by Judge Christopher R. Cooper on 08/28/2019. (lccrc3) |
