January 31, 2023 Opinion or Order MINUTE ORDER granting #6 Defendant's Motion to Extend Time to File Answer: Upon consideration of Defendant's Motion, and for good cause shown, the Court GRANTS the Motion. Though Plaintiff has not yet responded to the Motion, the Court maintains broad discretion to determine how to manage the cases before it. See Grimes v. District of Columbia, 794 F.3d 83, 90 (D.C. Cir. 2015). In exercising that discretion, the Court may, for good cause, extend time to complete an act if the request is made before the original time or its extension expires, even without a motion from the parties. Fed. R. Civ. P. 6(b)(1). Here, allowing Defendant to respond to Plaintiff's Complaint after the Court rules on its pending Motion to Compel Arbitration, ECF 4, is the more efficient way to proceed and will not unduly delay the ultimate resolution of this case. Accordingly, Defendant is ordered to respond to Plaintiff's Complaint within 21 days of the Court's decision on Defendant's Motion to Compel Arbitration if this case proceeds. Signed by Judge Jia M. Cobb on January 31, 2023. (lcjmc2)
