Plaintiff Graham Packaging Company, a recently acquired plastics container manufacturer sued an unknown "John Doe" defendant for Defamation and libel, charging that Defendant sent anonymous e-mails to company executives and employees with allegedly false information regarding employee bonuses, workplace morale, and compensation.

In one of the alleged e-mails, the Defendant tells the Plaintiff's CEO "Mr. Mark Burgess [that] you think that we are a pimple on your buttocks," and makes a reference to an unnamed person whom Defendant calls "the Sheriff of Nottingham," and who may potentially "be spending all his time with Bernie Madoff."
