Filing 2 MINUTE entry before the Honorable John J. Tharp, Jr: Upon review of the complaint, the plaintiff fails to establish federal diversity jurisdiction under 28 U.S.C. 1332. The complaint states that the plaintiff "is a resident of the State of Illinois." ECF No. 1 at 3. An individual's citizenship "for purposes of diversity jurisdiction is domicile," not her state of residence. Dakuras v. Edwards, 312 F.3d 256, 258 (7th Cir. 2002). Further, the plaintiff's complaint alleges the citizenship of several defendants "upon information and belief," rather than upon personal knowledge after reasonable inquiry. ECF No. 1 at 4. A jurisdictional allegation based upon "'the best of my knowledge and belief' is insufficient" to establish jurisdiction. Am.'s Best Inns, Inc. v. Best Inns of Abilene, L.P., 980 F.2d 1072, 1074 (7th Cir. 1992). The plaintiff bears the burden of establishing the Court's jurisdiction. Id. Therefore, the plaintiff is directed to file a supplement clarifying the basis for the Court's jurisdiction over this matter by 02/02/2024. Failure to do so may result in dismissal of this case.
