MINUTE ENTRY for proceedings held before Magistrate Judge Diana Song Quiroga. INITIAL PRETRIAL AND SCHEDULING CONFERENCE held on 7/24/2019. Plaintiff appeared through counsel Celeste Guerra. Defendants appeared through counsel Anthony B. James. The Court then summarized the procedural history of this vehicular tort case. Several issues were discussed that will lengthen the discovery period, including that Plaintiff had surgery and is still undergoing treatment and Defendants are Mexican Nationals. However, Defendants are headquartered in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, which is expected to simplify some aspects of discovery. A Scheduling Order with the agreed upon deadlines will be filed shortly. The Court, finally, highlighted District Judge Marina Garcia Marmolejo Civil Court Procedures which are available on the Court website, and emphasized the importance of conferring before filing opposed motions, and of providing the Court with prompt notification of settlement. The Court monitors its docket very actively and will endeavor to assist the parties with genuine disputes. Agreements to continue any deadlines are not binding on the Court. Requests for continuances must be made at least three days in advance of the controlling deadline.
