Filing 49 TEXT ONLY ORDER signed by Chief Judge Pamela Pepper on 06/20/2023 re #46 First MOTION to Stay as to Charles Lawrence filed by Charles T Lawrence, Jr.: On May 16, 2023--after the SEC filed the complaint in this civil case and after the court ordered temporary injunctive and other forms of relief--a grand jury in the E.D. Wisconsin indicted defendant Charles Lawrence on two counts of wire fraud and two counts of attempted money laundering. United States v. Lawrence, 23-cr-96-LA. The indictment was unsealed on June 12, 2023 and on June 14, 2023, defendant Lawrence appeared for an initial appearance. Earlier that day, at a telephonic hearing in this civil case, defendant Lawrence's counsel had advised this court of the pending criminal charges and orally moved for a stay of the civil proceedings (as to defendant Lawrence only) until the criminal proceedings against Lawrence could be resolved. The SEC indicated that it had no objection to that request. The court asked counsel for defendant Lawrence to file a formal, written motion for a stay, which counsel has done. The court GRANTS defendant Charles Lawrence's unopposed motion for a stay of these civil proceedings as to defendant Charles Lawrence only. The court ORDERS that these proceedings are STAYED as to Charles Lawrence only until further order of the court. NOTE: There is no document associated with this text-only order.
